Q Center takes great pride in our Libraries and private Reading Room.
Our books are separated into three collections:
– Q Center’s Kendall Clawson Library is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in reading or studying LGBTQ-relevant literature, free computers & Wi-Fi or just looking for a quiet respite. This collection is circulated between the community center space and our space at Portland Community College Queer Resource Center Rock Creek. Our collection is a stellar source of old and new fiction & non-fiction as well as academic tomes. With over a thousand titles (donations always accepted!), these books help round out our Library collection as one of the most thorough resources that Q Center has to offer.
The Kendall Clawson Library wishlist is located HERE.
– Q Center’s Transgender Reference Library is one of the largest collection of trans-specific titles in the state of Oregon. It was developed in 2004 by the Trans/Identity Resource Centre, a program of Outside In and was funded by a grant from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Northwest Region or (NNLM/PNR). The collection includes books and transgender resources touching on spirituality, youth, medical issues, legal issues and psychology, as well as videos of fiction, biographies and autobiographies. This collection is a moving testament to the hard work of several librarians, community activists, Outside In staff and PSU researchers–and Q Center is proud to provide it a home. The Transgender Reference Library is cataloged online and is searchable below.
– SMYRC’s Bayard Rustin Library contains over 1,000 books, zines, and films. The library is available any time the drop-in center is open for all LGBTQ youth who utilize Q Center’s Sexual & Gender Minority Youth Resource Center (SMYRC). The mission of this collection is to provide LGBTQ youth ages 12 to 23 access to information and resources that provide education, empowerment, and entertainment. Our library is online and fully searchable! Check it out HERE.
