Teresa’s Story

December 1, 2016

When I arrived at Q Center, I was working as deputy director for Queer Intersections, a nonprofit centering queer and trans youth of color in the broader LGBTQ movement. I was drawn to Stacey and Justin’s grace and mentorship, and their offer of another place to call home. Through them, I was able to test my own learning boundaries for how much more knowledge I could gain and put to good use.

Q Center is an organization dedicated to providing learning opportunities for folks looking to develop practical skill sets, so it made sense for me to join their working board. Since then, I have been able to witness the wonderful world that is Q. I’ve learned more in-depth about what it takes to create an intentional loving-kindness nonprofit culture.

Q Center practices the model of learning by leading and leading by learning, trusting that the folks in the room are experts in the knowledge they bring to the table. I’m grateful to count Q Center’s staff and board among my community and chosen family.

Our volunteers make Q Center the vital hub that is critical to so many. They keep things running smoothly and help us provide a diverse range of programming for our communities.

3) Share Your Story.

Each of us has reasons why we’re invested in Q Center with our time or our money Stories that need to be shared with others, that connect us to each other and to something bigger as a community.
