For decades, Q Center has been more than a building. It has been a place to walk through the door and know you are not alone. A place to meet someone who understands. A place to find resources, friendship, support, joy, culture, and community.

But communities change. People move. Lives get busy. Organizations evolve. Sometimes we lose touch with the places that once felt familiar, not because they stopped mattering, but because life carried us somewhere else.

Back to Belonging is an invitation to reconnect.

​

Maybe you came to Q Center years ago for a support group. Maybe you attended an event, volunteered, donated, browsed the library, found clothes that helped you feel more like yourself, or simply found a room where you could breathe a little easier.

​

Maybe you have never stepped through our doors at all. Either way, Q Center belongs to all of us.

​

Today, Q Center is entering a new chapter, one focused on strengthening the organization, expanding what we can offer, rebuilding connections across our community, and making sure Portland continues to have a place where LGBTQIA2S+ people can find one another.

​

And that work feels especially important right now.

Across the country, LGBTQIA2S+ people, particularly transgender and gender-diverse people, are facing growing uncertainty about their rights, healthcare, safety, and ability to live openly as themselves. In some states, laws have already changed. In others, people are watching what may come next and making difficult decisions about where they can safely build their lives.

For some, that decision is bringing them here.Portland has long been a place where LGBTQIA2S+ people come looking for community, possibility, and the freedom to be themselves. Increasingly, it is also becoming a place people look to when staying where they are has become harder.

​

That means our community is growing. And it means the need for strong LGBTQIA2S+ spaces, resources, relationships, and support is growing with it.

​

We do not know exactly what the years ahead will bring. But we do know that our communities may be asked to carry more, support one another more deeply, and create more of the safety and stability we need ourselves.

We need strong community spaces before a crisis arrives.

​

We need relationships already built. Resources already connected. Doors people know they can walk through. And we need Q Center to be strong enough to welcome the person who has lived in Portland for decades and the person who arrived last week looking for somewhere to begin again.

​

That future cannot be built by a handful of large donors alone. It is strongest when the community itself is part of sustaining it.

​

That is what Back to Belonging is really about:

• It is hundreds of people deciding that this place matters.

• It is former supporters reconnecting with Q.

• It is someone making their first-ever charitable gift.

• It is a longtime donor choosing to stay involved.

• It is welcoming someone who came to Portland searching for safety and community.

• It is $5, $10, or $25 at a time becoming something steady, dependable, and powerful when we put it together.

 

Because belonging is not something Q Center creates for the community.

It is something we create with each other.

And wherever you have been, however long it has been, whether Portland has always been home or you have only just found your way here, there is still a place for you.

​

And right now, we need one another to make sure that place remains.
