Getting started as a new freelancer

When you are brand new to freelancing and have zero reviews or past clients to show, how do you actually get someone to take a chance on you when most platforms seem to only surface sellers who already have hundreds of positive ratings, and is there a specific type of marketplace or approach that makes it easier for complete beginners to land that first small order without already having a reputation?

I was stuck in that exact loop for months. No reviews meant no one would hire me and no one would hire me meant no reviews. What finally broke the cycle was finding a platform like Zinn Hub that had small gigs for five to twenty dollars. Buyers are way more willing to take a chance on a cheap test order from someone with zero feedback. I offered a simple service, delivered it fast, and got my first review. Then another. Once I had three reviews, things started moving. So the approach that worked was not trying to compete for big projects right away. It was starting with small, low risk tasks to build proof of work.
