🏳️🌈 Why Q Tango?
Q Tango was created as an LGBTQIA+ centered space, while welcoming dancers of all sexual orientations and gender identities, and our allies, too!
Tango doesn't have to be about who is supposed to lead and who is supposed to follow. We encourage everyone to explore both roles and find what feels good for them, regardless of gender.
Our goal is to create a space where people can connect, express themselves, learn, and dance without having to fit into traditional boxes. We like to mix up the music too!
While we'll explore classic tango vocabulary and technique, our classes will lean approximately 60/40 alternative-to-traditional music. Expect to occasionally dance tango to blues, classical, electronic, and other unexpected sounds.
Because tango is a language—and we're curious about what else it can say.
Accessibility
We want to be transparent about accessibility: the Baker Building currently requires navigating stairs, so unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate all mobility/accessibility needs at this time.
We'd love to find a more accessible home for Q Tango. If you know of a Portland space that is ADA accessible, has smooth dance-friendly flooring, and could accommodate a partner dance class, please let us know! We'd be very grateful for any leads.
Come as you are. Bring a partner or come solo. Lead, follow, or try both. No experience necessary.
If you've been curious about tango, or just want to try something completely new, come give it a try! www.tangonexus.com
