Joelle Kim
Executive Director
She/Her
Joelle is a first-generation Korean American immigrant with lived trans experience and a leader deeply committed to equity, restorative justice, and community care. Drawing on her background in music therapy, mental health, and nonprofit leadership, she brings years of experience in advocacy, program development, and fundraising. Formerly a Mental Health Care Coordinator for Multnomah County, Joelle now serves as Executive Director of Q Center. She also serves as a Board Director for both Portland Healing House and Oregon Pride in Business. In 2025, she was honored with the prestigious Kathleen Saadat Community Advocate Award, presented by Multnomah County on Transgender Day of Visibility. Her priorities include strengthening organizational infrastructure, removing access barriers for QTBIPOC communities, and cultivating affirming spaces for 2SLGBTQIA+ people. Centering Black trans voices and grounded in lived experience, she leads with heart, integrity, and an abiding love for community.

Richard Walczak
Director of Developent

Rich is a nonprofit leader, fundraiser, and community advocate with more than a decade of experience serving LGBTQ+ organizations and communities. Throughout his career, Rich has focused on building inclusive spaces, strengthening nonprofit organizations, and creating programs and events that foster connection, visibility, and belonging.
Rich previously served as Executive Director of Miami Beach Pride. He also served on the Board of Directors and as Festival Director for Savannah Pride. And, he was the Special Events and Marketing Director for Pridelines Youth Services
Passionate about community building and social impact, Rich believes that strong, connected communities are created through both meaningful support services and opportunities for celebration. Outside of his professional work, he enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest, traveling, spending time with his dogs, and finding new ways to bring people together.

Lucero Mata
Programs Manager

Lucero Mata is a trans man of the Latine diaspora, artist, and community advocate. He holds a BFA in Graphic Design and Digital Media from the University of North Florida and spent several years working in marketing and design before transitioning into caregiving, supporting elders and people with disabilities. That work strengthened his commitment to community care and led him to Q Center, where he serves as Programs Administrator, connecting queer and trans communities with resources, events, and opportunities for collective growth and belonging. He also consults with the Portland Leather Alliance (PLA). Outside of work, Lucero enjoys making art, spending time with his cat Oona, and soaking up the Oregon sun whenever it makes an appearance.

Emma Crispin
Board Chair

Emma Crispin serves as Board Chair of the Q Center, where she provides leadership in advancing the organization’s mission and pillars. Emma graduated from Oregon State University in 2019 with a bachelor's in psychology, and from Willamette University College of Law in 2022. She currently works in estate planning and elder law, and strives to be a resource and advocate for underserved populations. Emma is passionate about lowering barriers to access to justice, and enjoys working with Oregon's 2SLGBTQI+ community. In her free time, Emma enjoys spending time with friends, queer dance parties, swimming, and spoiling her two cats.

Dahlia Hanson

Dahlia Hanson is a Portland-born small business owner and advocate with a deep passion for creating equitable, accessible spaces where queer people can thrive. Her work is grounded in lived experience and a commitment to uplifting queer and sex worker communities through opportunity and visibility. Dahlia believes that queer joy is essential and something worth actively building space for. Through her advocacy and community work, she has focused on reducing stigma, expanding access to resources, and creating environments where people feel safe to show up as their full selves. Dahlia is driven by a love for her city and a vision of Portland where everyone has opportunity.

Carrie Lofts

Carrie Lofts serves as a Board Member and Governance Committee member of the Q Center. Carrie graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2011 and earned her Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from Gonzaga University School of Law in 2019. She currently practices intellectual property and commercial transactions law at Rainier Vista Law Group. Before law school, Carrie served as a Guardian Ad Litem for the State of Alaska, supporting and advocating for vulnerable populations. She is passionate about community-driven advocacy and supporting Portland's 2SLGBTQIA+ community. In her free time, Carrie enjoys spending time in the outdoors, reading, and watching women's sports.

Bonnie Simmons
Board Member
She/Her
Bonnie Simmons serves as a Board Member and Development Committee member of the Q Center. Bonnie is originally from Houston, TX where she graduated from the University of Houston. For over 15 years she was a director at the Houston Bar Association where she was able to form and lead the HBA LGBTQ+ Committee. She currently manages the Texas and Oregon law offices for Chase Jones Law and serves as Board Secretary of the Stonewall Law Association of Greater Houston, Houston’s LGBTQ+ bar association. Outside of volunteering, Bonnie enjoys exploring Portland, Facetiming with her adult daughters, listening to live music, and playing card games with her partner.

Katie Reilly
Volunteer Coordinator
She/Her
Katie is the Volunteer Coordinator at Q Center. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Arizona in 2015, with a focus on public health.
Before joining Q Center, Katie spent seven years with the Oregon Health Authority’s Public Health Division, working across Family and Child Health and Health Promotion and Prevention. She is passionate about improving community health by exploring the intersections of public health, community care, and queer identity.
At Q Center, Katie is focused on building a strong, welcoming volunteer community where people can contribute in ways that align with their interests, skills, and availability.
Outside of work, Katie enjoys reading, cooking, and exploring Portland’s food scene with her partner.
At The Q Center, we believe that everyone in the LGBTQ+ community can embrace who they are, define their future, and contribute to a world where diversity is celebrated and respected.
